Jan Žabka

Jan is a young journalist who believes in facts and prefers quality before quantity. He focuses on factchecking, debunking disinformation, open source investigation and mapping the state of media in Czechia. He works for local news site HlídacíPes.org and studies New Media Studies at Charles University in Prague. Before that, during his BA studies in Olomouc, he was editor-in-chief of student magazine Houpací Osel and organized Student Media Conference. He collaborated with international investigative team Bellingcat and analyzed hate speech in social media groups. Jan believes that it is important to try to understand different worldview (even if we do not agree) and to discuss why it is so. He is an active user of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter but before commenting on something he always follows few rules that, according to him, every journalist should follow: 1. don’t write anything stupid; 2. before commenting breaking news, breath; 3. facts are always more than likes even if it does not look like that; 4. not everyone has to have an opinion on everything.ž
