About Kaplicky Internship

Are you in your final year of architecture studies at a Czech university? Do you want to become a great architect? Are you interested in kick-starting your career in a one of the world’s top architectural studios? If so, consider applying for the Kaplicky Internship. This unique program offers you the opportunity to spend three months on a fully-funded internship abroad, where you can start your career with valuable work experience and a list of internanational contacts.
The Kaplicky Internship is organized by the Bakala Foundation in collaboration with the London Design Museum and in partnership with the Kaplicky Centre Endowment Fund. The application and selection process is administered in cooperation with the Master´s Thesis Showcase held by the Czech Chamber of Architects.

Who can apply for the internship?

The Kaplicky Internship is intended for recent graduates and students in the final year of master’s programs in architecture at Czech universities. Participants must be citizens of the Czech Republic or Slovakia. Strong working knowledge of English is required for participation.

Current year

Applications for the 2023 competition are now closed. The winner, Anna Jelínková, gained a three-month paid internship at Büro Ole Scheeren in Berlin.
Since 2022, the Kaplicky Internship competition has been included as a category of the Master´s Thesis Showcase organized by the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA). This enables students to apply for both the Master´s Thesis Showcase and the Kaplicky Internship at the same time.
2023 Application deadlines & dates

An expert jury selects the competition finalists.
October
Finalists are notified that they have progressed to the final round of the competition.
November 20
Finalists present their projects in person, and in English, before the Kaplicky Internship international jury at the Bakala Foundation’s Student Hub in Prague 1. The winner will be announced at the Master’s Thesis Showcase gala evening organized by the Czech Chamber of Architects on the evening of the same day.
First half of 2024
The winner completes their internship at Büro Ole Scheerenthe. The specific date of the internship is subject to agreement between the architecture firm and the internship recipient.
About Büro Ole Scheeren
From its offices in Berlin, London, Hong Kong and Beijing, Büro Ole Scheeren has created innovative and award-winning projects all over the world. To date, Buro OS has completed projects on an impressive scale of 1,000,000 square meters, with an additional 1,000,000 square meters under construction. The winner of the ninth Kaplicky Internship will complete their internship at the Berlin headquarters, under the guidance of founder and director Ole Scheeren.
