The Bakala Foundation is the Czech family foundation of Zdenek and Michaela Bakala and was founded in 2007 to provide scholarships for talented students to study abroad at leading universities. The Foundation is unique in the Czech Republic for offering broad support for education and other programs for top-level students. Since 2010 the foundation has awarded more than a hundred scholarships to students in fields ranging from the natural sciences to the humanities. The Foundation has also helped to fund a wide range of cultural and other programs in the Czech Republic and abroad.
The Foundation’s activities include programs and projects aimed at helping young people in the early stages of their professional careers. The Foundation supports young journalists and independent journalism through the Journey: Journalism Bootcamp program. For emerging architects, the Kaplicky Internship offers work experience in prestigious European architectural studios. The Foundation also runs the Student Hub – a counseling center for students interested in studying abroad.
