My journey in law began at the Masaryk University in Brno, receiving a Master´s degree in 2022. During my Erasmus stays in the UK, I realized just how fascinating common law and its methods are, and that I wish to study them further. UK seminars nurtured my passion for law: by reading about it, analysing it, questioning it, discussing it, and writing about it. Real-life human rights violations – encountered during my internship at the Czech Constitutional Court – have made me more aware of the social impact of law. My main interests are constitutional law, human rights and the role of courts in modern democracies. In my Master´s thesis, I argued that courts should be able to advance rights of minority members (award them equal rights to majority members) to ensure effective equality and democracy.
Regarding my future career, I wish to focus on human rights litigation and reversing inequalities, mainly in relation to marginalized individuals and minority members (LGBTQ+ people, women, and other disadvantaged people and groups). Led by empathy and respect, I aim to become a UK and Czech barrister, working partly pro bono and collaborating with NGOs. The MJur programme at the University of Oxford – which I´ll be studying thanks to the support of the Bakala Foundation – will bring me closer to my dream of using my education to help people.
