My fundamental interest lies in what is happening in your brain at this very moment. I am interested in how your brain does it that it can understand the sentences you’re reading. Language is a beautiful phenomenon to study, for if one sees beyond its mundane character, one is struck by a world of immense complexity. I have been intrigued by languages for a long time. I have tried my hands on learning English, Spanish, Japanese, Latin, Norwegian and most recently German. I am also very keen on philosophy. Ever since reading The Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, I have been passionate about finding out how ethics works. I managed to find an overlap between my two main interests and wrote a SOČ paper on how we can analyse ethical discourse from the point of view of pragmatics-oriented philosophy of language. This experience convinced me that research is something I want to do in my life. What is meaning? What role does it play in consciousness? What is the nature of language? These are some of the questions I want to try to answer.
Currently, I am reading Philosophy and Linguistics at Oxford University (St Hugh’s College). In my Preliminary Examinations, I achieved a Distinction and was awarded the Stephen Parkinson Prize for best performance in Linguistics. I was inducted as a Scholar of St Hugh's College in Michaelmas Term, 2017.
In my free time, I enjoy reading fiction (I am particularly keen on Dostoevsky and Camus). I am also a classical music fan. As far as sports are concerned, I did sport fencing at high school.
