Theoretical Physics isn’t all about cats half-dead, half-alive, twins in spaceships and Achilles unable to catch up with the tortoise, but mainly about comprehension of real-world phenomena and the ability to abstract principles from reality. It also happens to be impossible to do Physics “just for fun of it” as a pastime. You are either untouched by its beauty or it captivates you to such an extent that you can’t help but devote yourself to it entirely. I belong to the latter group and that’s why I applied to the world’s most reputable universities in the UK and the USA, having previously studied at PORG Libeň Senior School in Prague for seven years. During secondary school I had the wonderful opportunity to join George Heriot’s School in Edinburgh, Scotland, for a year and enjoyed every second of my stay. It might have very well been the welcoming atmosphere and inspirational environment I was surrounded by, along with success I achieved both within the classroom walls and beyond, such as in the British Physics Olympiad, which prompted me to choose the UK and New College, Oxford, in particular. Phenomena such as chaos, time, entropy, symmetry fascinate me immensely and one day, I would like to know if the Moon is there even when nobody’s looking...
