I first became serious about studying mathematics in my penultimate year at a grammar school in Brno, my hometown. I was working on a project in applied mathematics at the local university and I discovered that mathematics is a very powerful instrument for solving many problems of practical interest. Enchanted by this research experience, I decided to apply to universities in the United Kingdom to obtain the best mathematical education possible. I was granted the Bakala Foundation scholarship in 2014 and I secured a place in the MSci Mathematics programme at Imperial College London, starting my undergraduate degree in autumn 2015. After two years of my studies, I was granted a stipend by my home university to spend a beautiful summer in Canada, working on a project in digital image processing at University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
I am currently spending my third year at ETH Zürich as an exchange student to broaden my undergraduate experience beyond Great Britain. My focus of study is mathematical analysis and its applications and recently I have also taken interest in theoretical computer science. In the near future, I intend to apply for a PhD programme in applied mathematics at some of the leading institutions in Great Britain and Switzerland. After finishing my studies, I would like to apply my gained knowledge and expertise to solving real world problems in industrial research or business.
