The Design Museum in London Named Eva Jiricna to the Board of Trustees

One of the most influential architects of Czech origin, Eva Jiricna, accepted an invitation to join the Board of Trustees of The Design Museum in London last week. Mr. and Mrs. Bakala, long-standing supporters and partners of the Museum, recommended Eva because of her outstanding contribution to architecture and her significant influence in the world of design. The nomination committee unanimously approved their proposal. "Eva Jiricna is one of the dedicated personalities in the field of architecture and design; her unique expertise will be a valuable contribution to the further development and direction of the Design Museum," the nomination declares. With Eva Jiricna's participation, the Museum's board wants to build on the excellent previous work, further support current activities and develop the projects that have made the Design Museum a leading institute in the world of design and a model for other organizations. She will also strive to continue to raise the impact of design and make the Design Museum a hub for the entire design industry, education, and public engagement. The Design Museum in London and Mr. and Mrs. Bakala collaborated on the Kaplicky Internship project. The program, organized by the family's Bakala Foundation, offers students and recent graduates in architecture from Czech universities the opportunity to spend three months on a paid internship in one of London's prestigious studios. In addition to the Design Museum, the Kaplicky Centre Foundation is also a program partner. Eva Jiricna sat on the inaugural jury of the Kaplicky Internship program in 2015. The winner of that year's competition, Ondřej Michálek, was thus given valuable work experience in the Eva Jiricna Architects studio, where he had the opportunity to try his hand at working on significant projects in the company of renowned architects.Eva Jiricna has lived and worked in London for more than 45 years. In 1984 she founded her studio there - Eva Jiricna Architects Limited. In 1999, together with Petr Vágner, she opened the AI - DESIGN studio in Prague. The studio's clients include major companies and institutions from all over the world, such as Amec, Harrods, Boodle & Dunthorne, Prague Castle, Royal Academy of Arts, Victoria and Albert Museum, Sekyra Group, British Council, Tomas Bata University in Zlín, among others. The studio has received media attention for the numerous international design awards it has won. Eva Jiricna has also earned accolades for her personal approach to architecture and design - she has was awarded the title of Royal Industrial Designer, the Order of the British Empire for Design, elected to the Royal Academy of Arts, and inducted into the American Hall of Fame.
