May 12, 2025
The Bakala Foundation proudly supported the journey of Team Skrat from Prague's Gymnázium Christiana Dopplera to the international FIRST LEGO League Open Africa Championship (OAC FLL), held in Cape Town, South Africa, in May 2025. This team of young science enthusiasts achieved an extraordinary result – third place in the Robot Design category.
OAC FLL in Cape Town welcomed 86 teams from 40 countries around the world. Securing 3rd place in one of the categories is truly an incredible achievement for our students,” said Jiří Šperl, a teacher at Gymnázium Christiana Dopplera, who accompanied the team on their journey to South Africa.
Team Skrat, composed of Šimon Vecka, Ondra Urban, Rosťa Kozlík, Filip Týc, Tomáš Jodl and Vojtěch Sršeň, returned from South Africa not only with a well-deserved award, but also with a wealth of valuable experience, international connections, and unforgettable memories. The foundation, approached by the team for support, provided funding for travel and other expenses related to their stay in Cape Town.
At Bakala Foundation, we have long believed that investing in young people, their skills, and their passion makes a real difference. This success is a wonderful example of how supporting talent can lead to tangible and globally recognized achievements,” said Václav Pecha, Foundation's director.
FIRST LEGO League is a global robotics and innovation competition that helps young students develop technical skills, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. As part of the challenge, teams design, build, and program LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a competition field.
We thank Team Skrat for their outstanding representation and look forward to seeing how their determination, creativity, and dedication will take them even further in the future.
