Tomas Kaco Releases Debut Album

October 28, 2018
Pianist Tomas Kaco, one of the Bakala Scholars, released his debut album “My Home” symbolically on the day of the 100th anniversary of the independent Czechoslovak state. Michaela and Zdenek Bakala, amazed by Tomas’s talent and personality, have proudly supported Tomas’s musical journey. “When we recently saw him in concert at Carnegie Hall in New York, I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes,” says Michaela Bakala, adding that this was the very moment when she and Zdenek decided to help Tomas with his first album. “Tomas is one of the talented Czech students our foundation has sent out into the world to gain a first-class education while also representing the best the Czech Republic has to offer: talent, hard work, and a cosmopolitan outlook with Czech roots. Tomas graduated with honors from the Berklee College of Music, sold-out Carnegie Hall, and became part of the L.A. music scene,” explains Michaela Bakala. The album spans Tomas’s life on both sides of the Atlantic, featuring guests from the Czech Republic as well as from Tomas’s new home in the U.S. Among the songs you will find Kaco’s own compositions, and covers of traditional gypsy or folk songs, such as “Ach synku, synku.” Tomas and Michaela played this song together in Prague during the Bakala Foundation Scholarship event in September 2018.
Michaela Bakala & Tomas Kaco playing "Ach synku, synku" “My goal was to put together a selection of songs that are close to my heart. Each of them has a very special meaning for me. Each and every one brings up some memories and create a feeling of home,” explains Tomas, who will be officially launching his album during a concert on November 12th in Prague. Due to high demand, Tomas has extended his tour to include an additional concert on November 13th. This date has almost sold out as well. You can listen to the compositions and support Tomas at the beginning of his musical journey by buying his album My Home from iTunes.
