Prague, August 8th, 2018: Adam Entous, the fresh Pulitzer prize winner and The New Yorker magazine reporter, opened the Journey: Journalism Bootcamp, a program for journalism students from 13 countries, on Sunday. The program, organized by the Bakala Foundation, aims at sharing the best practice and newest trends in current journalism.

The fellows are through the first half of the 10-day program full of lectures by eleven world renowned journalists and media experts. Adam Entous, whose investigation of Russia’s interference in 2016 presidential elections led to the resignation of Donald Trump’s security advisor, spoke about the importance of protecting journalists’ sources and thus their credibility.

On Tuesday, Jessica Bruder, a journalist, author and teacher at Columbia Journalism School, trained the fellows in reporting on subcultures. While working on her last book called Nomadland, she spent several months in a community of modern „nomads“, American migrant laborers who live in camper vans.

Today, the fellows are being mentored by the CNN justice correspondent Evan Perez, who currently covers the case of the suspected Russian interference in the US presidential election. His workshop presents the methods of the constantly developing mobile journalism.

„In the times of an increasing intimidation of journalists, we appreciate more and more that we can, through the Journey program, support education, and encourage journalists’ freedom and professionalism,“ say Zdenek and Michaela Bakala, the founders and sponsors of the Bakala Foundation, the program organizer.

In the following days, fellows will take part in further workshops led by experienced mentors, in the areas of news reporting, online media and photojournalism. Part of it is also a field work where they will be expected to report from the Prague Pride’s parade taking place this Saturday.
