The 2018 Bakala Foundation Scholarship Interviews Begin in Prague

September 11, 2018
The second round of the Scholarship selection process has just started for students who applied for the 9th year of the program. From September 11–12, the Bakala Foundation's selection committee will decide which of the 21 applicants will receive scholarships for their studies at a foreign university; 11 of them are interested in Bachelor's and 10 in Master's study programs abroad. In total, 200 students applied for the scholarship this year. "Every year during the interviews, we see enormously talented and motivated students who are fully committed to studying at their dream university," said Michaela Bakala, Chairwoman of the Bakala Foundation. "Speaking to these students makes me believe in a better future for all of Czech society. Once the students return, they can help the Czech Republic by utilizing the education and experience they have acquired. They can also help us by representing our country abroad," she added. The Chairman of the ten-member selection committee, Pepper de Callier, assured the students that the committee would try to make the interviews a pleasant experience. The 21 shortlisted applicants come from ten different regions of the Czech Republic, including six from Prague, four from the Moravian-Silesian Region, and three from the Plzeň Region. More than half of the students who applied this year are interested in studying natural sciences (52 %), followed by social sciences (33 %), and arts and humanities (14 %). While most of this year's applicants are interested in studying in the UK, a number of them would like to study in Switzerland, the United States, France, and the Netherlands.
